“Your members really remember lyrics, harmonies and movement without a conductor?!”
It’s a statement our Choir Leader, Dan Cooper, hears a lot. If you’ve ever watched Love Soul Choir perform, you might have noticed that we don’t perform with a conductor at the front. It’s something Love Soul Choir members are very used to as we have always performed in this way. But, it’s one of the things that sets Love Soul Choir apart from other groups.
Here are five reasons we love performing without a conductor;
1. It looks professional 🕺
We work really hard at sessions to ensure that our members are confident with lyrics, harmonies and movement. This ensures that performances look as slick and professional as possible. Performing without a conductor helps create the overall finished ‘look’ that we aim for.

2. Members get all the credit 🙌
Performing without a conductor or musical director at the front means that the focus is entirely on our members. Dan never wants the performance to be about him, he wants to empower members to feel confident whilst performing. Allowing choir members to take the credit at performances is just one way of doing this.
3. It stands out from the crowd 😮
At Love Soul Choir, we love doing things that break the mould. Whether that’s the way our sessions are taught or the way we perform. Performing without a conductor really is a different approach to most other groups.
4. It allows our members to develop performance skills 📈
Every member of Love Soul Choir goes through our audition process before they can join. But that doesn’t mean that all of our members are super confident performers!
Performing without a conductor means that our members can work on their performance skills, no matter their experience level. It means that, rather that focussing on watching a conductor, they can focus on engaging with audiences and each other.
5. Members work more as a team 👏
Our Love Soul Choir members are a group of people connected by their passion for music, singing and performing. And performing together without a conductor to rely on at the front is really unifying and special.
