At Love Soul Choir, our weekly sessions are just one part of our members’ experience. Performing at various venues across the South is part of the fun too. From weddings to sporting events and shopping centres, Love Soul Choir have had some incredible performance opportunities over the years.
Our most recent performance was at Westquay Shopping Centre in Southampton. We were there to support Abby’s Heroes, Westquay’s charity of the year, performing for shoppers across two sets. Performing at Westquay is always an amazing experience and this performance was no exception. We were also incredibly to proud to raise over £400 for Abby’s Heroes on the day.
Our performance at Westquay got us reflecting on the joy of performing and why we love it so much. When we thought about it, we realised that there’s just something really magical about performing as a team. If you’ve ever sung as part of a choir, you’ll know that there’s no better feeling than singing with others. And being able to share that feeling, when you perform, is really special.
At Love Soul Choir, we spend a lot of time perfecting every song we learn to make sure that it’s performance ready. So it’s always amazing to see the reaction of friends, families and the general public when we go out and perform. It’s even more rewarding when someone takes the time to come and share lovely feedback with us!
Performing also provides a really empowering experience for our members. Although we have an audition process at Love Soul Choir, our singers have varying levels of performance experience and confidence. Some members sing professionally, whilst others have never sung in front of anyone when they join. The great thing about performing with a choir is that you’re never performing on your own and it’s a really safe way of stepping out of your comfort zone.
Finally, part of the joy of performing is that members make amazing memories with each other! In fact, we know that some of our members’ favourite memories have been made at performances. Whether we’re performing to give back to the community, at a really spectacular venue, or even at one of our own members’ weddings, no two performances are the same.
We can’t wait for some of the upcoming performances we’ve got lined up in 2023. Our next performance is in just a couple of weeks time at the ABP Southampton Marathon and we’re also really excited to be returning to Mayflower Theatre at the end of May to perform at One Sound alongside Sing Now Choir and Sound Pop Academy.
