Wow. What a crazy time we’re all living in. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re all finding ourselves in unique, challenging situations. 🦠 Love Soul Choir is no different. Throughout this situation, I have been following the government advice and when we were advised against group gatherings, I knew that our weekly sessions and upcoming performances needed to be cancelled for a period of time.
Obviously, as a choir, one of the most important parts of what we do is meeting in-person every single week to learn, laugh and rehearse. To date, cancelling our in-person Love Soul Choir sessions was one of the saddest moments of my career. The only saving grace was that the decision was taken out of my hands.
As a leader, I knew that I needed to be innovative, strong and forward-thinking to keep the Love Soul Choir ship moving through these times. Thankfully, we already had a members only area on our website which allows members to access our bespoke content. This is awesome because it means Love Soul singers can continue practising and perfecting our songs ready for our next performance, whenever that might be.
As soon as sessions were cancelled, I took a couple of days to come up with some initial plans and decided to host weekly online choir sessions. These sessions have been super fun and a lovely way for all Love Soul singers to connect with one another, and me. Being completely honest, delivering online sessions are exhausting and it has really made me appreciate our in-person sessions. I can’t wait to get back to working with the choir in-person as and when the time comes. I’m really missing the amazing sound that Love Soul Choir generates every single week.
As a leader, I’m acutely aware of how important Love Soul is to the wellbeing of my members and that is why I am trying to incorporate routine and a sense of normality into everything we’re doing at the moment. I’m trying to stick to our originally planned teaching schedule with the hope to keep moving forward through the coming weeks. This will hopefully give all singers a sense of focus and a potential positive distraction from the current situation too.
Thankfully this situation is temporary and I am so grateful for the support from all of Love Soul Choir throughout this time. As a team, we’ll be ready to put on some amazing performances in the latter part of 2020 and I for one am VERY excited about this. I also think our next in-person rehearsal will be quite emotional.
We are still scheduling auditions for later in the year so if you’re tempted to audition for Love Soul Choir, now would be a perfect time to submit an audition request. You’ll have plenty of time to practise! 🤣
