Yet again, I feel less alone. 💜

June 13th, 2020

For all my 30 years, music has been a friend, always there to make me feel less alone.

As a child, I always sang to myself (never friends), occasionally forcing my mum to listen to an impromptu performance. I vividly recall belting ‘Eternal Flame’ by The Bangles as she watched me encouragingly, even though I’ve no doubt it wasn’t my best performance, being 11 and a little shakey.

Then in my teen years, whenever I had a difficult day at school, I would go to bed with my iPod in my ears, songs from every genre and era cathartically easing me into sleep.

Music was a non-judgemental comfort, available at the click of a button.

Joining Love Soul Choir in 2018 took this to another level, and I found myself surrounded by all these different people, whom stand side by side with one another, and share that same passion for our collective friend.

I now sing at the top of my lungs in my home, where I am currently alone during lockdown, and I don’t care who hears, I just know it feels good. Whenever I have had a boring day, or just feel tired of all this, I always think, ‘Have you sung yet today?’ and if I haven’t, I do. And yet again, I feel less alone.
