Love Soul Choir is more than just a choir. It is a supportive community of people who love to sing, who come together to connect, have fun and put on amazing performances. As an organisation, we’re always looking for ways to become more socially responsible too. We want to encourage our members to do the same.
Two of the ways we’re increasing the meaningful impact Love Soul Choir has on our members and our local community is through our commitment to protecting the planet and our programme designed to increase inclusivity. Let us explain…
Green Plan 🌳
Our Green Plan is all about encouraging members to make small changes to help protect the future of our planet.
One of the ways we support the natural world is through donating to the ‘Trillion Trees’ initiative. This is an initiative set up by the WWF, Birdlife and WCS which aims to plant one trillion trees worldwide. For every Love Soul Choir membership, we donate £2 per month. This helps support and protect 56 million hectares of critical habitat for people and wildlife. You can read more about the Trillion Trees initiative here.
But, our Green Plan is about so much more than donating money. It’s about supporting our members in their journeys towards being more conscious about, or reducing, their carbon footprints. For example, we encourage members to car share to sessions and performances and to bring reusable water bottles to sessions. We also share a monthly tip about ways members can help protect the planet and operate as a paper free organisation with members using electronic devices for lyrics at sessions.
We’re really looking forward to doing more to support our Green Plan this year. So far, we have a city clean and beach clean planned for our members. We know these will be a great opportunity for us to give back to our local community, and spend time together.
I’m An Ally 🌈
This year, we’ve also launched our ‘I’m An Ally’ (IAA) programme. Love Soul Choir is fundamentally a welcoming and inclusive group. But we know there’s more we can do.
Our I’m An Ally (IAA) Programme is designed to create a safe space for members to reflect on issues including race, gender, sexual identity, mental health and neurodivergence. We hope that it will help our members strive to be more genuinely accepting of those who have had different experiences and to improve the inclusivity, diversity and equality of Love Soul Choir.
In early January, in our Members’ Facebook Group, we shared our first IAA post. It focussed on what being an ally means and the steps to becoming an ally. We were really pleased to see our members engaging in this important conversation and can’t wait to see how this programme develops over the course of 2023.
We’ve received some amazing feedback from our members too:
“To have such a forward-thinking choir leader paving the way for a better future for everyone makes me incredibly proud.”
