Last weekend marked the first Love Soul Choir performance of 2020 – our eleventh year of singing in and around Hampshire – and we were out in force at Castlepoint Shopping Park to help raise money for Wessex Cancer Trust.
You may not have heard of them, but Wessex Cancer Trust have supported people with cancer in the local region for almost 40 years. They provide counselling, complementary therapies, and a place to just sit and have a cuppa of tea, for both patients and their families.
Back in 2014, my family and I used their services after I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 31. Wessex Cancer Trust gave me someone to talk to, provided reflexology to help combat the effects of chemotherapy, and even put me in touch with people to support my son who was only 4 at the time. They couldn’t have done any of this without generous donations from supporters.
Our gig last weekend was outside in the cold wind and driving rain (as is a speciality of Love Soul Choir! ), but it was a tonic to be singing in front of the shoppers who were buoyed by our appearance, with lots of people singing along, and a fair amount of dancing too! It was great to be singing to blow away the January cobwebs, whilst giving something back to a charity that helped me personally, and continues to help thousands more.
