Having auditioned and joined the choir at the beginning of July, I have now passed my 1 month choir-versary. I can honestly tell you – deciding to apply for that audition is one of the best things I have done in a very long time!
So after finding out that you’ve gotten in, the first session was a little daunting – it felt like the first day of school! But Dan and the entire choir were super-friendly, and I felt completely welcome. Watching the choir perform up close was equally daunting – the thought in my head was ‘how will I ever be that good?!’, but Dan assured me I’d be up there with them in no time.
Setting about learning the songs seemed it was going to be a real challenge, but the helpful guides in the members’ area made it straightforward to start learning my parts and the corresponding movements. As the last few weeks have gone by, I’ve started being able to join in more and more at each session, realising that the practice is paying off! As with anything new, it’s bound to take some time to adjust. The rest of the choir have been so helpful and encouraging. It’s a really unique opportunity to sing and learn in such a supportive environment. Nobody ever judges or berates your performance, the sole aim is making the choir better, and making the next performance even more memorable. Did I already mention what a great bunch they are?! More practice, and a couple more weekly sessions, and then came this week’s session. I think this was session number 5 for me – and I found the feeling…
The feeling… I can only describe it as pure electrifying magic. Standing with the rest of the choir, and being able to confidently sing and dance with everyone else. Being part of that group, creating such a fantastic sound – is a feeling quite unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The others told me that it was a bug, and I think it’s safe to say I’ve caught it. The music filling the room, knowing that you’re hitting the choreography perfectly, and hearing the harmonies come together, is immensely satisfying – and we weren’t even performing to anyone! I am now starting the countdown to performing with the choir for the first time – and I have no doubt the buzz will be even greater when there’s an audience!
If you are even a tiny bit tempted to come and have a go, please apply for an audition! The nerves and the fear of auditioning, and those same nerves of walking into a room full of people you don’t know, will all be worth it when you experience the feeling, and catch the Love Soul bug!
