On Saturday 25th June 2022, a few members of Love Soul Choir took to Hengistbury Head in Christchurch (Dorset) to participate in our first ever beach clean.

Our choir leader, Dan, is really keen to do more to protect the planet and encourage societal change around the climate crisis we’re facing. One way he is doing this is by asking Love Soul Choir members to explore their own carbon footprint as part of our Green Plan. On top of this, this year, Dan organised a beach clean and it was really well received by those who attended.

Taking part in pro-environmental activities or just getting out and being active in nature has been proven to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve mood, but there is also evidence to suggest it can help eliminate fatigue, boost focus and even improve short-term memory. Others have said that they have found beach cleaning to be a very positive experience. It can makes people feel energised and reminds them that they are making a positive difference, no matter how small.

We all had a really fun time, creating memories and doing something positive for the local area. Not only was the litter picking element satisfying but the social connection gained by coming together to do something positive can not be overlooked. Being by the sea can really lift your mood too. Overall, a huge success.
