The Story of Love Soul Choir

The idea to launch Love Soul Choir was formed back in 2008. The journey started in Southampton where we wanted to launch a new, fresh and unique choir experience for singers in the city.

Since launching the choir, we have had a positive impact on a huge number of individuals from all across the Southampton and Bournemouth areas.

Solo Performance Night

This event takes place once a year. It’s an optional opportunity for members to perform as a soloist or as part of a duo / small group to the rest of the choir and an audience of family & friends. It’s a great way to build confidence.

Our members absolutely love the experience and it’s such an incredibly uplifting and supportive evening.

Wellness Retreat

Co-facilitated by MARA, this event takes place once a year and is a way to get members out in nature, connecting to themselves and others. In life, we all have a lot going on and can often spend a lot of time in our own heads. A lot of stress, anxiety & pain (emotionally) comes from spending time in the past or future. The more we can practise being in the present, the happier we’ll be.

100%* of those who attended left feeling significantly better than when they arrived.

Mens Meet-Ups

Obviously poor mental health impacts everybody but the statistics around men’s mental health is shocking. Because of this, we organise 4 events a year, just for the men. They’re designed to help encourage a deeper bond between the men at Love Soul Choir.

One member recently said: “I sometimes find it more difficult to bond and interact with men due to my own experiences growing up gay – this initiative challenged me to be braver and step out of my usual social comfort zone. Seeing this initiative mentioned on the website really helped me choose a choir that was suited to me.”

Carbon Neutral Business

Our Green Plan

Between 2021 and 2024, we donated a total of £11,598 to the Trillion Trees initiative. Since 2024, we have worked with Carbon Neutral Britain to become a Carbon Neutral Business. We’re passionate about our Green Plan too.

We also organise 4 events each year, related to this initiative. A live Q&A session, a City Clean, Nature Walk and a Beach Clean too. We have also been pro-actively encouraging members to car share. Not only is it better for the planet, but it can be a great way to meet other members and connect with them too.

Since 2024, we have had a ban on all single use plastics at all Love Soul Choir sessions and events.

Recently, we teamed up with Ocean Bottle to create co-branded water bottles that members can purchase on our store. For every bottle sold, Ocean Bottle fund the collection of 1,000 ocean-bound plastic bottles.

IAA (I’m An Ally) Programme

At a top level, it’s pretty clear that Love Soul Choir is a welcoming, friendly and inclusive choir but, we need to do more.

In 2023, we launched our internal ‘I’m An Ally (IAA) Programme’ as a way for members to self reflect on issues such as (but not limited to) race, gender, sexual identity, mental health and neurodivergence.

The IAA Programme is designed to help us as a choir (and as a society on a whole) be more genuinely accepting of those who may have different lived experiences to us. We organise a couple of events throughout the course of the year ranging from in-person sessions to online training and regular discussion posts too.

It’s a small step but we feel that it’s a step in the right direction…

Our Members Area and Facebook Group allow our choir members to access everything they need…

Members Area

Love Soul Choir members get access to the Members Area here on our website. It’s where they can listen to our song arrangements, look at the movement guides, our performance calendar and more – everything you need all in one place!

Facebook Group

We also have a thriving Facebook Group which allows members to connect with each other. We don’t just talk about singing! Members regularly connect over shared interests or bespoke content designed to start conversations. It’s the perfect place to cultivate and build great connections with fellow members.
