One Sound is a collaborative choir show produced by our Choir Leader; Dan Cooper and his best friend; Jack White who runs Sing Now Choir.
The first show took place in 2016 after Dan & Jack decided to bring all of their singers together for a one-off performance opportunity. It was such a special moment to have everybody participate in one show.
The history of One Sound 👀
The first two shows took place at the Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton and featured Love Soul Choir, SingForce & Sing Now Choir.
Following the success of these two events, Dan & Jack decided to theme each show in order to bring a sense of cohesion across each group and across the show more broadly. In 2018, One Sound: America was announced and it was also time to find a bigger venue. The show headed to Central Hall, in Southampton. For this show, we also welcomed Total Voice Contemporary Choir to the lineup. Total Voice Contemporary Choir performed in our 2018 & 2019 shows.
For 2019, One Sound needed to explore somewhere bigger, once again. Dan & Jack decided to head to O2 Guildhall Southampton for One Sound: Space. It was such an epic experience having so many singers come together on stage for this otherworldly experience.
Each year, the show had grown and grown and was selling out each and every performance. The show needed to go bigger, again! This time, there was nowhere more grand and special than Mayflower Theatre. This 2300 seat venue was perfect for the show and One Sound: Magic, in 2020, was such an exciting prospect. The show featured Love Soul Choir, Sing Now Choir and for the first time, Sound Pop Academy joined the One Sound family.
Then, Covid struck. One Sound: Magic was one of the last performances that took place at Mayflower Theatre before the theatre went dark.
One Sound: Lets Get Together
Due to the uncertainty around shows, leisure activities and social mixing, Dan & Jack decided to organise a mini One Sound day instead of a full-on show for 2022. It was often said that the actual rehearsal day, in the buildup to the show, was the best part of the whole One Sound experience for the participants. ‘One Sound: Let’s Get Together’ at MAST Mayflower Studios was an opportunity for members to enjoy the buzz of being in a theatre and singing together, in a relaxed environment, after 2 years of uncertainty and trying times! It was such a great success.
At this event, in 2022, Dan & Jack proudly announced One Sound: Musicals which took place at Mayflower Theatre in May 2023. This show featured Love Soul Choir, Sing Now Choir and Sound Pop Academy and for the first time ever, the One Sound vocal trio. These soloists helped bring even more cohesion to the show. We also had Aidan try to steal Dan’s job. He hosted a small section of the show!
Two Year Cycle
As you can imagine, producing a show like One Sound takes a huge amount of work. Following One Sound: Musicals, Dan & Jack decided to move the large scale One Sound shows to a two year cycle. This gave them both time to recover before the planning would start again. In between the big shows, Dan & Jack decided to host another ‘Let’s Get Together’ event which was eventful to say the least. At this years ‘Let’s Get Together’, there was a full venue evacuation due to power cuts in the area. It was pretty exciting! 🤣
Either way, Dan & Jack were able to announce a date for One Sound: 2025 outside, in the scorching sun after being evacuated from the venue.
One Sound: Legends
The theme for the 2025 was recently released and tickets will be going on sale in the coming weeks. Each participating choir gets the chance to shine with their own setlist, and they’ll also join forces for the big group numbers that open and close the show. These exclusive, themed arrangements are a One Sound hallmark, never performed outside of the event. And of course, singers get the opportunity to perform on the very stage where legends like Freddie Mercury and the Beatles once stood.
